VW rumoured to be creating small EV hatchback

We’ve been saying for a while now that the smartest thing VW could do to try and move on from #Dieselgate would be to promote the eyeballs out of its EV and hybrid offerings.

Well, it seems that we should indeed be in marketing after all, as it’s been rumoured this weekend that the firm is in the process of developing a small fully-electric vehicle – something which the current UK car market is screaming out for ahead of the launches of the miniature Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt.

According to Autoblog, VW’s CEO Dr Herbert Diess has been heard saying how the car would form part of VW’s “innovative plan” for the future, offering at least a 186 mile range thanks to an all-new 48-volt battery system.

With the Mk8 Golf set to be unveiled in 2018, which is sure to include a fully electric e-Golf option, we’re not sure whether this standalone car will be released before this date, or perhaps on the sacred 2020 which so many manufacturers are aiming towards for their flagship electric models.
