Those of you in BMW tuning spheres will already be very familiar with aftermarket tuning house AC Schnitzer. The firm has built a reputation for going back to the drawing board with sportier Beemers over the years and adding its take on the styling side of each model, with often opinion-splitting results.
It was inevitable that the first images to emerge of a tuned i8 hyper hybrid would cause a similar reaction, regardless of who was responsible for it. So when ACS announced it was taking on the i8 as its latest project, we waited with baited breath…
We’ll let you decide what you think about the results, but to us, it’s a pleasantly surprising affair. The new wheels not only look sharp, but offer a double-whammy of functionality in the form of adding more width and less weight to the package. This is stuff that will aid the car’s performance then, and that’s stuff we like!
Elsewhere, we’ve got a lower ride height, which when combined with the bold move of making the majority of the car’s bodywork just one colour creates a vastly different aesthetic. Carbon bits further add to the excitement.
There’s been no leaked images of an updated interior yet, which is probably a good thing, as the car’s standard innards are a bit of a work of art. Performance remains the same, which works out at a highly respectable 4.4 secs to 62mph and 155mph (limited) if you’re not already familiar.
We’ll let you decide whether you’d go for AC Schnitzer’s enhancements or not…
