Chevrolet is undeniably one of the leading manufacturers for EV and hybrid cars in the USA at the moment. The forward-thinking brand has now released many new electric-enhanced models; namely the Volt, Spark and upcoming BMW i3-matching Bolt.
We don’t know about you, though, but the word ‘Chevvy’ never fails to conjure up images of the brand’s most iconic car to date – the Corvette sports car – with its sharp, angular lines mated to a blood-curdling V8 soundtrack.
Strangely, Chevrolet appears to have little or no plans to add its flagship sports car to its EV portfolio at present. But despair not, as aftermarket green car company Genovation has announced that its putting America’s favourite sports car firmly on the EV map by offering a Corvette-based EV in just a matter of weeks!
Starting with what is arguably one of the better Corvette shells of recent times, the sumptuous 2006 Z06, just how are Genovation aiming to replace the might of that 6.2-litre V8 motor? We’ll let CEO Andrew Saul explain: “e are using state of the art inverters, batteries and electric motors that will produce in excess of 700-hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. We expect the car to achieve 0-60 mph in around three seconds and have a top speed of over 200 mph.”
What’s more, the car will offer up a range of 150 miles if driven sensibly (which may prove difficult), with a 50/50 weight distribution. Not only could this easily become the fastest road-going EV out there, then, but also one of the more practical by the sounds of it.
It may take a while to acclimatise to a silent Corvette, but with performance figures such as these promised, we’re dying to see the results. We’ll keep you updated nearer the release…
