Well, that’s it ladies and gents. Humans are officially no longer needed on planet earth, it seems, after the announcement from the guys behind Formula E today that a driverless car race championship is intended to feature from next year’s season.
Teaming up with Kinetik, the ROBORACE series aims to help develop and illustrate the autonomous technologies which are currently taking road cars by storm.
The championship will act as a ‘support’ race to each leg of the Formula E calendar, running on the same city courses as the human-controlled events just prior to these races.
Denis Sverdlov, Founder of Kinetik and ROBORACE, said: “We passionately believe that, in the future, all of the world’s vehicles will be assisted by AI and powered by electricity, thus improving the environment and road safety. ROBORACE is a celebration of revolutionary technology and innovation that humanity has achieved in that area so far.”
Further details are set to be announced early next year…
