It was one of the founding teams in the dawn of Formula E back in 2014, and remained the only team left not to be classed as its own manufacturer, but it seems like time’s up for Team Aguri as it announced today that next weekend’s London ePrix races will sadly be its last.
Having “agreed the sale of its licence to new investors,” it’s unclear where the team that brought the iconic Gulf livery to the futuristic motorsport and current home of drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Salvador Duran will go from here.
Mark Preston, Team Principal of Team Aguri, commented: “I am proud to say that Team Aguri can be considered true pioneers in the development of electric vehicles, pioneering new technologies and showcasing them to the world.”
“While this is the final chapter in Team Aguri’s history in the FIA Formula E Championship, this also represents the start of something new, with the sale of the team to new investors. As such, this will be the final race for Team Aguri and I would like to thank all involved for their hard work and dedication over the past two seasons.”
Marc Faggionato, Team Aguri Owner, commented: “Team Aguri has established a reputation as an outfit known for its technological excellence, dedication to innovation and has become a firm fan favourite”.
“I would like to thank all involved, from our staff, to our partners and our fans – all of whom have been integral to our successes. I wish our staff and the new owners the very best of luck for the future.”
Team Aguri currently lies in eighth position in the Constructors Championship, on 24 points, with the final two rounds remaining. We’ll be bringing you much more from the London Formula E rounds very shortly…
